Getting Started

This has taken longer to get started than for the Himalayas to form. Ok, maybe not quite 40-50 million years… but it feels like that!

I’m going to keep this first post short and sweet so I can finally say that I’ve got an article done. I’m sure I’ll go into more detail about this later on but to put it simply, I’ve had a mild obsession with financial independence and the freedom that comes with it since I can remember. I didn’t really know where to go for questions on “what to do” so I decided to figure it out for myself. That journey took me into a number of different and interesting careers where I gained valuable knowledge along the way. I’m not saying that I have all the answers, but I’ll help explain what’s going on where I can. I’d love to help share what I’ve learned with those seeking it and hopefully save others some time, struggles, and money.

Math My Money was born from the desire to help others empower themselves through personal finance. Cue the cliché eye roll and perhaps a classic facepalm. Bear with me! If everyone was able to do more of what they wanted to do and less of what they’re more or less forced to do, I think the world would be a better place. That’s my pitch. Through financial literacy individuals can more easily (not saying it’s gonna be easy though) transcend their circumstances. That means more space to take risks, pursue their passions, and just enjoy life.

I put this into practice on a small scale as a teacher, but scalability becomes an issue pretty quickly after we run out of desks. I’ve got a new baby (kind of redundant because I think we just call old babies kids…), a full time job, fun life obligations, and not a whole lot of time left for much else. BUT with what little time I do have here and there, I’m committed to scraping together what I can for you. I hope you it enjoy and if you do, consider helping me spread the knowledge :)
